I was asked to do a doodle of the Guatemalan American labor activist, Luisa Moreno. I was amazed to find out that, even as an outsider, Luisa Moreno was able to bring people together across borders, races, and class lines to stand up to everything from the Klu Klux Klan to corporations and the United States government.
I loved coming across stories, like the time she boldly snuck past police officers hiding a picket sign under her coat to spark a cafeteria strike or when she mischievously blasted loud music into her phone to mess with the FBI agents listening in.
NPR did a wonderful article on her that you can find here.
